About Dr. Fanous

Dr. Fanous was born and raised in Abilene, Texas. He graduated magna cum laude from Abilene Christian University before being accepted to medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. There he graduated in the top 25% of his class. He completed his internal medicine training at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas. He then went on to complete his fellowship in gastroenterology at LSU in New Orleans.

Dr. Fanous has been on staff at UT Health main campus (formally ETMC) since completing his fellowship in 1994. He served on the hospital Peer Review Committee for almost 10 years. His procedure complication rates are well below the national average. He is proud of his ADR (Adenomatous-Polyp Detection Rate) during colonoscopy being higher than the national average.

Dr. Fanous and his wife Connie have five children. His oldest, Hanna, is in a fellowship training program in Utah to become a cardiologist. His next two oldest boys, Aaron and Noah, just graduated from San Antonio Medical School and are planning to become dermatologists. His fourth child, Asher, is about to start medical school at Southwestern in Dallas. His fifth, Ethan, is studying biology in Tyler. His wife, Connie, is studying at UT Tyler to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Dr. Fanous enjoys running, cycling, Texas Hold ’em, crossword puzzles, and photography.
